Choosing an operating system or requesting a reinstall

Choose an operating system supported by both your application and its required drivers or control panel. The newest available release is not automatically compatible with an existing workload. Confirm the version, support lifecycle and licence requirements before deployment.

For a new installation or reinstall

  • List the applications, language runtimes, databases, modules and management tools that must run on the server.
  • Confirm whether the request is a clean installation or an upgrade that must retain data and configuration.
  • Before a reinstall, verify an independent backup and document the data, keys and settings needed to recover the service.
  • Agree a maintenance window, access method and post-installation checks. Explicitly identify any disks that must be preserved.

A reinstall can erase data and interrupt every workload on the machine. Submit the service reference and requested image through your account, and wait for the scope and authorisation to be confirmed. Do not treat a snapshot on the same server as your only recovery copy.
